Poll Everywhere - My first thought were the various assessments we use before and after units. In fifth grade, the students answer an anonymous questionnaire before the bullying unit. I share and use this information throughout the unit. I spend a lot of time compiling the responses. This will be so much quicker.
ScreenLeap - Wow, if the ladybug projector was down this would be helpful. Every room has 4-6 computers that could be turned on or this could be nice in the computer lab with a class to share what's happening on my computer screen with the students. Especially helpful before they started work on something for me so they could follow step by step. It personalizes it, brings it closer for students and may be more apt to pay attention to what's in front of them instead of focusing on the bigger screen.
In Focus - I like the idea of this site. There are certain units that I teach that there is a wealth of information, but I only want to share certain parts of certain handouts and have it stand out in my students minds. Instead of making copies or writing down my many thoughts and words I can use this. It gives me "credibility/believability" with the students too......I'm always pointing out to students that this important information is from such and such......
Tag Galaxy - Amazing doesn't begin to describe this site. My 13 year old daughter was over my shoulder and took over the mouse and begin exploring different sections of the site. She just kept trying more and more words to see what they would put up there. She loved (me too) how you could put words together, under 1 concept, like beach, and then she chose other words to go with beach (sunset, water) and the pictures would change to include all the concepts. The pictures were so real and colorful. The realness of the pictures will bring so much more alive to students of all levels. It truly was a visual experience.
Textivate - I just played for a little bit and all my mind could do was think about how I could use the many text or matching activities in various units at all grade levels. I also do a little small group with kindergarteners and help out with their academics. I do a lot with sight/popcorn words with students. I could even see this working for small group activities like friendship groups with matching terms and phrases/definitions. I have a 4th grade frienship/conflict unit and one handout was matching friendship words with definitions. Instead of paper/pencil this could work.
Dweeber - This isn't a site I thought of using as a school counselor. My first thoughts were of my children. My daughter would have friends call or text her or vice/versa about homework. Some of the work or explanations would have been so much easier with dweeber. She liked the idea of the virtual whiteboard so that she and her friends could work on homework together just as if they were in the same room. She can't wait to have school started! (HA HA).
Certificate Street - As a school counselor I'm always looking to promote a positive environment. There is nothing elementary kids (parents too) like more than is to receive a positve something from another adult. This site has numerous education templates (IE: awesome attitude, most helpful student, trying certificate). I really like the idea of trying certificate. There are so many students who I want to let know that I recognize the small gains they are making. It is easy to to use. Just fill out the name and print. It is created free and if you don't see one that you want they will create one for you.
Tube Chop - I use various media like learn 360 and you tube. Sometimes, I remind myself to watch a whole clip through because I do not need to be shocked as I'm with my students. I can remember that I really liked a you tube video, but not all of it. Sometimes, I don't need all of it either. Tube chop is a good idea because I can cut off all excess if it isn't approprite, or relevant, or I just want a funny or interesting section. I can keep what I want to show without trying to remember where it was I wanted to stop a clip with my students.
